MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS FUNDRAISE TO CONFRONT ROMNEY AT REPUBLICAN CONVENTION
Workers Also Raise Money to Buy Back To School Supplies for Low Wage Families
Hundreds of dollars donated in opening days as workers fan out across the Washington area
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Fed up with trickle-down economics and unable to buy their kids the basics to head back to school; minimum wage workers have started collecting donations to travel to the GOP convention to confront Mitt Romney and help their children buy basic back to school supplies. The effort began on Tuesday, July 30 and will continue for two weeks. The money raised will be given to minimum wage workers at the worksites of several Washington area minimum wage employers on August 15.
Teams of minimum wage workers and supporters will fundraise at the following locations:

WHEN: Thursday August 2, 2012 3:00 P.M. until 4:30 P.M.
WHERE: Gallery Place Metro
ITINERARY: Romney’s Nuts and Not So Sweet Bake Sale
WHEN Friday August 3, 2012 4 P.M. until 8 P.M.
WHERE: 741 Alabama Ave. S.E.
ITINERARY: Dancing on the corner & sidewalk barbeque. A mother’s call for help

The minimum wage can’t support area families. At $7.25 an hour, the federal minimum wage amounts to $15,080 a year- that’s more than $7000 below the federal poverty line. Maryland and Virginia tie their minimum wage to the federal wage of $7.25. The District’s minimum wage is $1 dollar higher than the federal minimum wage.
Several Bain Capital workers and other minimum wage workers will be available for interviews.
