Speaker Boehner: “Some Cuts Never Heal—Jobs, Not Cuts”

D.C. residents wear forehead Band-Aids, hold family photos, pray and deliver pictures to Speaker

WASHINGTON D.C. — On Thursday, Nov. 15, more than 100 community leaders and residents from across the Washington, D.C., area will line the hallway outside the House speaker’s office. Residents will hold a prayer vigil while wearing Band-Aids and holding photos of loved ones affected by Speaker John Boehner’s push for cuts without caring approach to the impending fiscal cliff. Each resident will leave a photo of someone affected by fiscal cliff cuts at the Speakers reception desk.
Voters rejected the “You’re On Your Own” Republican philosophy that guts vital services and provides tax breaks to the wealthy. District residents need leadership that rebuilds the middle class, invests in good jobs, and protects vital services such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
Boehner (R-Ohio) has opened the door to painful budget reductions during the lame-duck session of Congress. Instead of cuts that will have disastrous effects for Medicare, Medicaid, child care, special education and other vital public services on which our communities rely, we call on Speaker Boehner to take an approach that puts job creation first. District residents will present a letter to Boehner arguing that jobs should come before cuts.
Residents directly affected by the proposed cutbacks will be available for interviews.
