Protesters Call on McDonald’s to Raise Wages On Fourth Anniversary of Last Federal Minimum-Wage Increase
American Icon should super-size paychecks; Working at McDonald’s means below poverty line earnings
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Led by Ronald McDonald, minimum-wage McDonald’s workers and their supporters will send dramatic “Raise the Wage“ messages inside and outside of three McDonald’s locations beginning at 8 a.m. at the McDonald’s Van Ness and Wisconsin Avenue, NW location.
Dubbing the stores “McMinimums,” protesters will visit two additional locations before attending a Capitol Hill Press Conference in support of the Minimum Wage Act of 2013.
Middle-class jobs are being replaced by minimum-wage work and McDonald’s is a national leader in low-wage pay as it earned more than $546 billion and paid its CEO $13.45 million in 2012. A coalition of low-wage workers, community and labor groups, and elected leaders will call on McDonald’s and some of the biggest low-wage employers in the nation to give their workers a raise at protests Wednesday, July 24.
